Intergenerational MEG Bonfire

Welcoming the new MEG 18 students into the MEG family

The start of November marked the return of the MEG 17 students from summers spent on internships, adventures and some much-needed rest and relaxation, ready to start their penultimate semester.

Making their return all the more exciting was the presence of a new cohort, MEG 18! These 33 new MEG students represent the best and brightest from 19 different countries around the world. More details on these new individuals bringing fresh ideas, perspectives and insight to the MEG program can be found here.

As is customary in the program, the MEG 17s arranged a welcome event for their new colleagues, who are already several weeks into the program. This year that welcome event took the form of an intergenerational introductory bonfire in one of Freiburg’s many gorgeous green spaces, Waldparkplatz Wonnhalde.

MEG students from generations 18, 17 and even a few of the MEG 16s still in Freiburg, were able to gather together for an evening of campfire songs under the stars and a truly MEG-style meet and greet.

Many MEGs were able to meet their MEG buddy (a partner student from the older generation) for the first time, in addition to getting the low-down on favourite modules and top hangout spots in Freiburg.

Already the MEG students are organising multi-generational activities, ranging from a new-and-improved MEG soccer team to the MEG climbing group, and we cannot wait to see the collaborations that emerge between students new and old in both the academic and social spheres of MEG life.

Welcome new Meggies, welcome back MEG 17’s, let’s achieve great things together in the year ahead.
