MEG2 alumni gather in Freiburg
Subsequent generations of MEG students joined in to listen to insights on how to make (re)integration into a life and career back in your home country after MEG, as well as to learn about the wide array of pathways graduates have followed after completing MEG. These networking opportunities were followed by a discussion about tackling developmental challenges as understood through the lens of the SDGs/Agenda 2030. Several alumni also took the opportunity to share their current research and work projects, and illustrate the connection between MEG module content and their real-life work experience:
-
"Studying and working with students from around the world [in MEG] inspired critical thinking, dialogue and debate. This combination gave me a certain self-confidence because it made me feel well prepared for different fields of work." Rob Elsworth (MEG-2), Technical Adviser for UN Environment in Sudan
-
"[MEG] helps students to better understand major challenges of our time beyond a narrow disciplinary focus, while working with people from different countries. This increased intercultural awareness is very relevant when we work in international organizations... MEG students also learn to tackle complex issues and reflect on them critically." Saran Selenge (MEG-2), Research Assistant for UNDP - Partnerships in Turkey
-
"In addition to getting to know many people from different cultures, I liked that [in the MEG program] there were never formal solutions for problems. We researched and worked out everything ourselves, just like in real life. No one just gives you the right answer, and there’s also never just one solution that always fits everything." Flavia Gabriela Oyo Franca (MEG-2), Chief Compliance Officer for Odebrecht in Angola
It wouldn't be a MEG gathering without some relaxed fun mixed in with the intellectual rigor. Students, staff, alumni, and their families gathered in Peterhofkeller for an evening of food, drinks, socializing-- and of course, dancing. The following afternoon, a large group headed out to the Black Forest for a leisurely hike hike from Kanonplatz to St. Ottilien Waldrestaurant for Kaffee outside on the terrace. The hike was even registered as an official private activity within the N! Aktion-Tage/European Sustainable Development Week.
Many thanks to all who attended!
